Garlic and Prostate Cancer

If for some reason I found myself in a position where I could only take one daily supplement, then it would have to be Garlic. Having said that, I always advocate gaining nutrition from wholesome foodstuffs where possible, and garlic is no exception. It is everywhere.

Garlic really is one of nature’s foremost impressive foods and I am a huge fan. It has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties as well as a host of other quite stunning health promoting goodies. All of these claims are substantiated by decades of worldwide research and trials making it one the most tested foodstuffs ever.

Foods belonging to the Allium group have been found to contain anti-cancer properties especially in China which has the lowest Prostate Cancer rate in the world uses this type of ingredient in the majority of cooking. This Allium group contains Garlic, Onions, shallots, and scallions.

Allicin, is the active ingredient in garlic, but it is worth noting that it is destroyed within about an hour of crushing the garlic prior to eating. This would seem to negate the many healing properties contained in garlic pills. So if you decide to get your daily dose of garlic from supplementation, ensure that the product is of the high quality Allicin type.

Interestingly, in one study carried out in China, Scallions were found to reduce Prostate Cancer by 70% and taking 2 grams of garlic daily reduced this risk by only 50%. Once again this is more compelling evidence to eat wholesome food in your everyday diet and live as healthily as you can.
